Kind of reminds me of a show that I didn't watch for the last 5 seasons......all the same.....boring

The shot at the end was awesome, but other than that it didn't grab me

...and this thing is a series, not a mini-series?

If so, I'm not sure how they drag it out without really killing it.

I'll stick with Threshold this season as my Sci-fi show.

It was alomst like Threshold, but with a sea monster instead of aliens from the 4th dimension

Did anyone catch the Ugly Doll at the beginning of the pilot?

No, it's a regular series...they've managed to do more than a single season on some people stranded on an island, so pretty much anything is possible if the writing is good. That of course assumes the writing is good.

The second episode was meh. How many times have we seen the 'encounter with an alien makes you heal'? But the stuff with the diver and oceanographer isn't too bad, but the entire thread around the kid and his 'pet' is driving me apeshit. Way too E.T. for me, right down to the annoying sister.

But the creature designs aren't bad, and I'll give it a couple more weeks. BTW, isn't the whole dragon thing kind of interesting? Instead of actually breathing fire, they use a light to stun their prey. Hmmm.

I do have one huge plot problem though with the show - why is the government going to so much trouble to cover up something that will clearly become obvious to everyone? First, they have a map on the wall with black pins all over the place of sightings, so they know there's lots of them. Second, the U.S. on their own certainly can't keep something like that quite worldwide. And third, what's the point of keeping it quiet at all? Now, there could be some possible explainations that I'd be happy to buy into, but I'm just afraid that they'll skip that part and want us to believe that they are doing this (the government) just because, well, that's what they do. Hey, there's nothing wrong with a good government conspiracy (just look at X-Files) but you better make it 'good'.

Threshold is still number one at this point, but let's see how Invasion and Supernatural do this week, along with the debut of Nightstalker.

If you like the old Night Stalker you probably won't like the new one..

I'm not sure why people assume that - why does liking one version of something mean you won't like another?

I loved the old show when I was a kid, but it's corny, silly, and goofy, just like most 70's stuff. I have no interest in watching a new show about an over the hill, not particularly bright newspaper writer who can't defend himself, let alone save anybody else, unless he gets damn lucky.

This was another show that they gave us 20 minutes or so of at SDCC, and it has possibilities. Part of it will depend heavily on the chemistry between the male and female leads, and part will depend on the quality of the backstory they are putting together for Kolchak. This show is MUCH darker than the original, and much more gruesome from what we saw, both good things.

As much as I love the old show, that's pure nostalgia, and this version certainly can't be worse. The question is whether it can actually be good.
